Chances are you cannot find a person in this world who has not been impacted by the pandemic. That’s rather significant. It is interesting, though, when you consider the degree of impact the pandemic has had on the person, or even whether the impact has been primarily positive or negative.

The reality is there are many life circumstances we encounter that are out of our control. And while this lack of control can heighten emotions, the reality is, we do have a choice as to how we respond to them.  It is here where resiliency lies.

The saying goes “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t: you’re right!” Imagine how our lives would change if we could readily reframe our thinking and embrace a more positive perspective. This is easier said than done, but I believe having support from others can make a difference. What if we all made an effort to reach out to others, beyond our usual circles to offer such support and hope?

Maybe it’s a simple call or text, a card in the mail, chat on social media, or a special gesture. With the holidays around the corner, this may be more important than ever as many celebrations will not be traditional.

Every holiday season, along with the various decorations, there always seems to be an abundance of candles. I’m reminded that a candle can give its light to another candle without ever losing anything. This is a beautiful metaphor when it comes to human beings and the giving of our love and kindness to others.

This has been an unprecedented year and there are many people who need help reframing their circumstances. I hope you’ll join me in being a light for others as I recall the simple, yet profound words of Dr. Seuss:

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
