Onamia, MN – Mille Lacs Academy, a nonprofit organization providing emotional, behavioral and mental health services to youth and families, has hired Shannon Amundson as Executive Director.
Shannon Amundson comes to Mille Lacs Academy with over 25 years of residential, Department of Human Services (DHS), Department of Corrections (DOC), and Council on Accreditation (COA) experience. The majority of her career has been spent with Volunteers of America Bar None (an adolescent residential program) in Anoka, MN. She began her career there as a direct care staff and worked her way up the ranks to a Program Director position. Her most recent role was as a Facility Inspector of Juvenile Facilities for DOC.
“We are thrilled that Shannon has chosen to join the Mille Lacs Academy team. She brings a wealth of experience working with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma and struggle with managing their emotions and behaviors,” said Paula Minske, Vice President of Clinical Services.
Amundson chose to make Mille Lacs Academy her next stop because she believes the role is a great fit for her skill set and will allow her to work in a residential treatment environment, which she has long had a passion for.
“I look forward to partnering with Mille Lacs Academy staff and the Mille Lacs community to help bring about significant positive change in the lives of our youth and their families,” said Amundson.
In her new role she foresees continuing the work of instilling a trauma informed environment at Mille Lacs Academy. In her free time she very much enjoys spending time with family.
